Q: How does light affect a subject in a photograph?
You will learn the basics of studio and natural lighting and apply it to your work. IPads and DSLRs will be used.

Assignment 1: Remember the Egg

For your first lighting assignment you will begin by watching the video below:

Once you have watched the video, you will set up various lighting angles and situations as seen in the video. You will use the studio lights that are available in the classroom. Your photos will be taken with Ipads. You will upload your best photos to Google Drive to be used later. Your final assignment will require you to hand in three of these photos with labels describing your lighting. You will place these in a Google Presentation shared to your teacher and titled Lighting Project.

Assignment 2: Studio Portrait Assignment

For this assignment you will take portraits of a classmate using studio lighting. You will set up a backdrop and experiment with various lights and angles. Your classmate will pose with a prop brought from home that gives clues about the model's personality and interests. (example: a judge and his gavel, a tennis player and her racket, etc.) You will take these photos using a digital SLR camera. You must save three of your best studio portraits to hand in as part of the Google Presentation shared to your teacher and titled Lighting Project.
